Tamoil F1 605 EP Tunnel by Dragon Hobby

A new super-cool brushless F1 RTR tunnel boat from Dragoon Hobby. The boat is painted to resemble the most famous of them all as in the F1 DAC boat that Guido Cappelini won several F1 world championships in a few years ago.

Do note, the Tamoil F1 has no outboard motor - it just looks like that - the brushless inrunner motor is mounted inside the boat and it has a flexshaft as most RC boats have today. But on the transom there is a new rudder/strut system with a good looking Merc F1 power head style cowl (even including the beefy Merc exhaust). As the "outboard" is attached to the rudder it will also turn when you turn, creating an good illusion that its actually an outboard on the transom!

Conrod:
The conrod is made from a superlight aluminum which has been ultrasonic checked. The specific form of the conrod creates little turbulence inside the engine while running.

Piston/Sleeve:
The sleeve has 9 transfer ports. The special shape and positioning of the ports improve the internal fluid-dynamics to obtain the maximum possible performance. Lightened CNC machined piston.

Crankshaft:

TecnoPower is forced to stop the manufacturing of model racing engines for the simple reasons that we are not managing to generate enough sales to cover our costs and so cannot continue our existence as a real manufacturer.

TecnoPower will officially close at December 2011.

We will try to service our distributors in the best possible way until our closure and would like to apologize to any inconvenience caused with this announcement.

Me and my partners at Tecnomeccanica have put in a lot of time and financial efforts since August 2009 to get this project going, I think that the quality of our production is at the level where it should be but the economical situation dictates us differently.

Japanese RC boats revisited

Here is a batch of relatively new pics from the Japanese RC boat scene! :)

We now know that the "Jap" style of RC outriggers are here to stay for our type of heatracing also - at least in the smaller sizes. Here in Sweden we have seen the Zipp Kits JAE 21G2, the Wood R/C Boat Racing Products BlackBird .21 Generation 2 and also my own prototype KEP's T2-21 riggers that seem to work equally good in race conditions. :)

Do note that most of the below riggers are not heatracing riggers that are raced among other boats - they are smaller versions used for their 100 m short course 4-lap type of solo racing.

Grisslinge Hot Island Race 2011

September 11 me and Sunken went to Grisslinge just outside Stockholm to watch some full scale boat racing. The race is called Hot island Race and it was an European Champ race for the F1000 class (Bimba won) but also some other classes like F4S tunnels, Thundercats (2-men on a "raft"), J15 stock junior class (from 9 year old boys and girls!) and the world wide teenager hydro class OSY400. It was fun to watch a race as a change! :)

Micke's (Mr. Sunken) development KEP's T2 was fast but he did too many errors so he finished fourth. TecnoPower M03-21 engine of course. :)

Ulf's JAE .21 G2 has been quick all year.

Stefans BlackBird G2 with Picco power finished in a strong third place.

Mattias Bengtsson was among the fastest but did too many mistakes. "Benke" is running my old KEP's .21 "06" now with Novarossi power! It's still quick. ;)

Our local club in Oxelösund hosted the last FSR-H nats of the year September 3. The H15 and H27 class was canceled due to to few registered racers in these classes... So the complete race was run in one day in absolutely perfect weather. :)

Futaba 4PL 2.4GHz S-FHSS

We have used the Futaba 3PKS, 4PK & 4PKS FASST™ radios for a few years now in our racing boats with much success. They work super good for RC boat racing!

Futaba have a new 2.4GHz system they simply call "2.4GHz S-FHSS" that is a more affordable system and their latest "surface" radio is called 4PL. Yesterday we where at the pond testing our new Kep's T2 project boats with TecnoPower M03-21 engines and I felt it was time to test a 4PL radio in one of my development boats. It worked super good - no issues what so ever. :)

Some of the 4PL features:

S-FHSS 2.4GHz system
40 model memory
Four mixable channels that also can be adjusted/activated through the external switches and dials
Brake mixers for large scale cars
4WS mixers (crawler)
ABS brake
Adjustable throttle & steering speed
Racing timer with manual lap counting
Digital trimmers
Choose able functions for the digital dials and trimmers
The trigger is of the same type as 4PKS - it has adjustable "length" from the handle and adjustable spring tension
And much more...

Note, the Futaba 2.4GHz FASST™ & Futaba 2.4GHz S-FHSS systems are not compatible.

The receiver for the 4PL radio is called R2104GF and it's a quite small and light and it's S-FHSS & FHSS auto detect.

July 2:nd we raced our 3:rd Swedish FSR-H (Outrigger hydros) and OTA (Stock outboard .21 tunnels) nats at a new race place just north of Örebro in the small "town" of Frövi.

Unfortunately there where not that many racers attending so the H15 and H27 class was canceled. That meant the race was run on one day.

The weather forecast for the weekend was far from good but the rain blew away at about 10 in the morning and just got better and better.

FSR-H3.5 - Top 3:

The 3.5 class is by far the most popular heat racing class in Sweden and the one with the most competitive boats. Booth me and Mattias ended up with 1500 points after 5 heats so we had a run off for the win! I blew it by making a faulty start... Mattias was fast in my old Kep's rigger so I could only make up for half a lap but then his engine stopped 5 meters from the finish line but slowly moved over the line before I got by... ;)

In the 45 class I switched engine in my Kep's T2 .21 boat to a TecnoPower .23 motor and raced against the fast .45 boats... I made a couple of really good starts and held off for like 3 laps until the water went a little bit to rough for my 1.6 kg ".21" boat. I ended up in third place though! :)

May 18-19 we raced the second hydro and outboard tunnel nats just north of Ludvika in Sweden. We had some rain and some waves but overall the weather was way better then what we expected.

Teather Car Racing

Last weekend me and Mr. Sunken went north for a Sunday trip and watched some teather car racing in my old home town of Gävle.

Results.

Well known Swedish hydro boat racer Anders Martinelle is also doing some teather car racing with a car that runs in a special "OPS cup" in the normal 5 cc class. These "OPS" engines are a little too slow in the normal 5 cc class but they have fun anyways! The fastest 5 cc guys use stroked-up and modified NR .28 engines and run well over 300 km/h. The OPS cars can do on a good day just over 280 km/h.

One of the fastest 10 cc racers in the world - Mats Böhlin. At this race he did a 340.916 km/h. Not to shabby!

Here below are some pics of my friend Peter Wahlund's new Picco 10 cc car. You can buy one of these complete for 3500€. So far it has done 327 km/h in two tries...

Swedish #1-2011 Nats in FSR-H & OTA

May 28-29 we raced the first Swedish 2011 FSR-H hydro nationals of the season and also the OTA 3.5 cc class (Outboard stock tunnels). Booth 3.5 cc classes where held on Saturday and 7.5 & 15 cc hydros where raced on Sunday.

The weather forecast was far from promising and it was quite a lot of wind (around 6-7 m/s). But it was not extremely bad water - just bad... But for sure it was far from being perfect!

(I forgot the camera battery on charge at home this weekend so all shots where made with my iPhone.)

TecnoPower race report.

Sometimes the sun came out but it was never "warm".

Stefan raced his new BlackBird G2 for the first time. This is on Friday practice. It looked really good on the water - even in the rough. Chris has done a good job developing it! :)

Mr. Sunken (Micke) testing one of his KEP's T2 .21 riggers on Friday. It looked good but he didnt dare to race it as his first boat on Saturday. Its a TecnoPower M03 engine in it that feels very promising.

KEP's .21 T2 Prototype

Ok, here we go. Last year me and my race buddy "Mr. Sunken" came to an agreement that we needed to take our rigger know-how forward as we booth felt that the std KEP's design was at it's limit. But with that said, the old-school KEP's design has worked very good for us with me finishing third at the latest NAVIGA FSR-H 3.5 worlds in Hungary so its still a good performing boat design I think... ;)

As you can see the new T2 project boat in these pics has got its inspiration from some "Japanese" type of boats, some "JAE" and some ideas of my own of course.

Do note, the KEP's T2 is a prototype project that we will develop this summer so its far from a finished design at this time! We have multiple versions of it with different tubs, sponsons, running surfaces, skis, engine placement and after-plane lengths etc... So it's basically no idea to ask me specific questions about it/them yet as we have hardly started testing them. We'll see what we learn this summer and how the finished KEP's .21 T2 rigger will end up looking like in the future. The pics show some of the first day of testing and even after the video was shot, and the pics where taken, we did some changes that improved it's performance. :)

The very first day testing it was blowing a steady 5-7 m/s wind and the water was changing from "90-size-boat-choppy" to almost white water. The pics & video where shot when it was the calmest.

If a completely new boat project was'nt enough we have some new engines to test also! We will use the new power plants from TecnoPower in these new T2 boats and in this one its a box-stock TP M03-21 engine that is not modified in any way or form. As the M03 comes without any carb and flywheel I used the proven Charles Perdue made Zoom carb (15 mm neck dia) and a flywheel from Solinger on my M03 engine.

The rumors about Novarossi developing a .45 marine engines have been floating around for years. But now they have published information that its in the works but its not exactly what most of us had hoped for... For a gearbox application in a FSR-V or off-shore boat it would work fine I think but for a direct drive Im not so sure...

The M03 has been developed for marine inboard use. Inside is a new dedicated 3-Port Piston/Liner with a single newly shaped exhaust opening of 181° and a 3-port inlet opening of 129°, the crankshaft inlet has an opening of 35° and closes again at 245°, this combination is a good base for marine use, combined with a normal STD head button, a High Speed main-bearing and TecnoDuro rear-cover this engine will be the engine to watch for 2011 and beyond.

Updated! TecnoPower is now including two extra combustion chambers for turbo glowplugs. One with std volume (same as the std threaded chamber) and also the "V1" high compression chamber for even higher compression.

Germany to host NAVIGA FSR Worlds in 2012!

Update2: it's now official - there will be a NAVIGA FSR worlds in Dessau, Germany starting July 28 and ending August 12 2012. Click here for more info.

Update: it seems like it's far from sure that it will be an NAVIGA world champ in Dessau next year. As to my knowledge there has not been an official application sent to NAVIGA from any nation yet... Some say NAVIGA will announce some info before the end of September and some others say later this year... To be continued...

BB Hardware on my .21 Outrigger

Here are some pics of how some personalized BB Hardware super-light .21 strut and rudder could look like on the transom of a outrigger.

SS 4-40 screws are used for mounting of the rudder and strut bracket and aluminum 4-40 lock nuts. The top screw that holds the rudder blade is a 6-32 SS button head and the lower brake away screw is a 4-40 aluminum (hole drilled through - no threads in rudder blade bracket).

I used a 90 deg M4 brass nipple bought from Frank Werner that I glued with ProSeal™ Pro Weld Quick glue. But you can use JB's version of that glue also. The nipple is glued at 90-deg left when the rudder is moved to full lock right... So at neutral the nipple points slightly forward.

The radius on the inside of the rudder bracket slightly interferes with the two outside mounting holes so I filed that part flat so the screw head would sit flat.

Steering linkage: Du-Bro #369 ballinks, Du-Bro #144 pushrod & Du-Bro #336 threaded coupler.

Aluminium #4 washers is used on the inside of the transom. Futaba S9551 steering servo.

Du-Bro medium silicone tube...

If you run your .21 rigger "old-school" style with a exposed driveline (and usually with rear sponsons) then you may want to modify your strut like this. I used a Dremel sanding drum (the smallest dia) and sanded it down towards the 1/4" K&S brass tube.

Note; the rudder blade is really, really thin and sharp - borderline too sharp/thin if you ask me. That is all good if you want to go fast but it makes the leading edge of the blade fragile. So I recommend you buy and extra blade right away and remove the blade from the bracket after each days boating. Store (and haul) the boat with it removed and it will last longer.

New lake for ERCK

For the last year or so the R/C club in Eksjö (ERCK) has had issues with their lake and complaints from neighbors etc... But now that is solved an they have an new lake called Änkarpagölen (wrongly spelled Ankarpagölen on the maps below - sorry) located just north of the city. No racing this year but hopefully in 2012. Looks very good!

Race report from TecnoPower!

On the first of May we headed from Volta Mantovana to Boretto to take part of the 2nd Trofeo of the Italian championship.

We found ourselves with 20 subscriptions all in the .21 Tunnel class, most of the boats used were Thunder Tiger Bandit and their engines. Some OS and of course some TecnoPower engines.

The day started off cold but when the sun came out things became much better...:-)

The race format was 3 qualifiers of 8 minutes each and after 1 final race of 12 minutes! for which we needed to invent something because my fueltank of my TopSpeed boat would not be sufficient for this, luckily my friend Ivan Baruffaldi was there to help me out with an extra fueltank to make this possible.

The race was a good exercise for TecnoPower because the engines have been working very well with a win at the end cannot be better.

Just got these pics of a German boater named Marko Konzack that has built his own .21 outrigger that is some what based on the earlier Kep's 21. The tub seem to be of a semi-carbon design and the sponsons are the original "old" Kep's ones. It will be interesting to hear about how it performs. :)

O.S. Engines in Japan have released some info of a new 3.5cc inboard marine engine called MAX-21XZ-M. The new engine is a long-stroke motor (the old MAX-21VZ-M is/was a short-stroke) and seems to be based on the geometry of the MAX-21XZ-B buggy car engine.

O.S. Engines in Japan have just released some info of their updated outboard engine called MAX-21XM Ver.II. It looks like the water cooling head is gone in favor for a air-cooled one and there is an muffler extension added. The power numbers are unchanged though.

Propster - Electric Ice "boat"

A friend of mine from Uppsala has made his own full-scale electric Ice "boat" that he will run on the Orsa Speed Week this weekend. This winter he has modified it with front and rear suspension, new "skates" and more power. Its powered by a HUGE brushless outrunner motor and lots of LiPo cells. In practice (the video above) he topped it out at 133 kmh! :)

This is the first pics of a Prototype TecnoPower .21 Outboard Rig showed at the fair - it's machined in house at the factory in Italy!

Do note, the outboard rig (the lower unit and/or as a complete outboard engine) is yet to be decided to be manufactured! So, does it look interesting or what? :)

JAE .45G - 2011 edition

The J.A.E. Racing gang have just released the new 2011 edition of their JAE .45G outrigger!

JAE .45G 2011 spec:

The tub is shorter, narrower, higher above the water and with a updated lower side profile.
The after-plane is shorter (T.E. of ski vs T.E. of front sponson ride pads).
The rear ski is wider (1.43" now vs 1-3/16"" earlier).
The front sponson ride pads have less AoA (now aprox 4.4 deg).
The front sponsons upper deck has more negative AoA.
The front sponsons are longer (especially towards the rear).

Here you can find some info about the first JAE .45HG version.

As usual, save the pdf's on your favorite storage media (like an USB stick) and go to a printshop (Kinkos or reprographic print shop etc) and have them print the pdfs in 1:1 scale on 30" x 42" paper.

Very old-school Mercury 2.5L V6 2-stroke motor. One of the suppliers of con-rods for these are this guy.

Its actually a "prop" he's carrying... They use it for stationary engine tests at the pontoon...

On Sunday after the race we went to the newly opened Ferrari World outside of Abu Dhabi. Its just next door to their F1 racecar track. This is the famous really quick roller coaster - but we couldnt go... It was closed. Crap.

At an earlier F1 H2O race in China (I think) Jay Price used this newly designed special version of the DAC. Its shorter and wider. He crashed it at that event and now the Cappelini factory guys (DAC) where repairing it...

Swedish star Oskar Samuelsson did well at the two F4S races and he won the championship!

Bimba Sjöholm was not really up to speed this weekend - she use an older Mölgaard F4 hull then Oskar = not fast enough... The limited power from the Mercury 60HP engines make the hull very important...

We made it back from the United Arab Emirates and the F1 H2O GP of Abu Dhabi... The weather was awesome (30+C), the city was "interesting", the partying was 100% and the races wasn't that bad either...! ;)

But I catched a cold with additional fever kicking in the last day when we where heading back to Dubai and our flight back home to freezing Sweden so Im not 100% up to speed yet... I will add more text and many more pics later on as soon as I have gone through them in Photoshop and my head clears up. :)

One of many taxi drives in UAE. Do note, the "MAP" button doesn't work - as in absolutely no GPS function... Most drivers, one would think, would hit the "LOST" button quite often but that was not the case! LOL. You better know yourself where you are going as the drivers most of the time have no clue and its not helping that the buildings aren't numbered either. Brilliant. ;)

We where guests of Jonas Anderssons Team Azerbaijan - he dnf:ed though with a throttle cable "link" coming loose. At that time he was 6:th I think... Crapers. Marit Strømoy (Team Azerbaijan) finished 8:th.

There was also two F4S races held in Abu Dhabi with two Swedish racers, Oskar Samuelsson (in the picture here above) and Bimba Sjöholm. Oskar won the first race and finished third in the second to secure the over all win (I think).

Ended up getting 77 out of it. I was getting the needle set and that is when i hit something. Oh well, not to bad for the conditions. I was testing a new turn fin that didn't work so well as you hear me in the video. I got some pictures from my German friend Christoph Schneider taken when they recently went to the local pond testing Frank Werner's newly bought BlackBird .21 outrigger hydroplane. The boat used to be Chris Wood's own race boat and was recently shipped over from the US to Germany (Chris is the one that builds and sells the BlackBird boats).

After a day of testing they where very happy with the performance!

Ps, drop by tomorrow Friday for the introduction of the 2:nd Generation BlackBird .21 outrigger!

Frank has installed an CMB engine - I do believe Chris used to have an Novarossi engine in it when he raced it in the US.

Hmm, plastic prop? ;) (that was just for the very first run)

And yes, green is Frank's favorite color! But I get a feeling he likes fluo-orange now also... ;)

And now something for my Swedish viewers...! This video clip is from a classic half-hour TV show from the 90's that was called NileCity 105.6. The show was about a made-up radio station that was called that (NileCity 105.6). The guys behind it is/was a group called "Killinggänget" - that could be translated to "The Killing Gang" but not really... They where funny as hell though!

This sketch is kalled "Novemberkåsan" and "Sudden" comes into the studio with a report from the classic Swedish enduro motor bike race - his style - and he has some props with him... That race is run every November (really - not made up) and its classically run in very muddy, wet, cold and snowy conditions - typical November weather here in Sweden. You get the similarity's if you look at the YouTube clip. :)

Outrigger Set-Up board and AoA charts

Here's an easy winter project for anyone that wants to be able to check their outrigger set-up without the need to buy any expensive digital AoA device. You can measure the sponsons & strut AoA quite easy when it stands on the set-up board. Do note, the actual AoA reading will be slightly less when you do like me vs. if you turn it up-side-down and use an digital AoA device that you lay on the bottom of the sponson ride pads. That is due to the fact that when it stands on its own "feets" and with the normal weight of the RTR boat the sponson tubes gives/flexes a little... But that is the way it will do when running it also, right?

My set-up board is a 19 mm MDF board that I have cut to 1050x630mm size. You need to check what size is best for your boat(s). Mine is for 21 and 45 sized riggers. Holes are cut-out for the turn fin and rudder.

These are the AoA tools you need. The green tool is the one you use when checking the front sponson AoA. I made mine out of a fiber glass sheet that was 3.2 mm thick - perfect. But you can make your own tool gauge out of any flat material that is somewhat rigid like aluminum, carbon etc. The thickness must be either 3.0 or 3.2 mm though - columns for booth thicknesses is included in the chart. Make at least one long edge of the tool gauge straight and at 90 deg. Thats the edge you will push against the running surface of your front sponsons. Its easier if you make booth edges equally straight and true then you dont need to make sure you have the right edge.

This is the main chart measure for checking the front sponson AoA. Print it out at 1:1/100% size and cut the three different "parts" out with a pair of scissors. The little one on the bottom is a base measure "chart" that you use when checking low degree AoA's as in strut and rear sponsons etc...

When you have printed it out on a laser printed double check the base line measurements that is in the charts so they actually are at 20/30/40/50/60/70 mm from the base line. If not you have not printed it out correctly and the AoA's will not be correct.

After cutting them out its best to cover them with some plastic laminate so they will last a while.

Do note, dont use the gif picture here above - thats not in scale!

Now stand the rigger on the set-up board with a laminated (or not) chart including the small one for the strut (so its level and on the right height on all corners). Align the trailing edge of your front sponson ride pads to the base line of the chart - see the above picture.

Do note, for these AoA charts to work - the bottom of your sponsons must be perfectly straight and true for at least the last 70 mm toward the TE. If the ride pads are convex or concave you cant measure the AoA like this, in fact if that is the case its difficult to measure the AoA at all...

Then you use your newly made tool gauge that is either 3.0 or 3.2 mm thick and lay it on the chart in front of the sponson to be measured. Then push it carefully back until it touches the bottom of the sponson. Make sure the gauge tool is aligned and parallel to the lines in the chart. Read the AoA to either the left or right column depending on if your tool is 3.0 or 3.2 mm thick. In this case the AoA is 3.59 degrees as my tool gauge is 3.2 mm thick.

Also note the fact that the sponson AoA charts are made to be read on booth left and right hand side of the chart. The lines are separated in 1 mm segments so the text would have been unreadable if made to be read on one side only so to speak. If you check the charts carefully you will know what I mean... :)

With a set-up board its also easy to check the turnfin angle. First I make a line with a permanent market at the first bend. That bend I want to have perfectly horizontal = not angle up or down.

Set your rigger on your new set-up board and use a steel ruler and the permanent marker again and draw a second line that now is perfectly on the water edge level.

Now you easily can see if your turn fin is pulling down or lifting. As a base set-up the two lines should to be parallel. Make adjustments and wipe off the top line with denatured alcohol and re-do the last step until you're satisfied with its angle.

In April 2009 I published this AoA chart that you can use to measure AoA angles of a rigger also. The chart is made the other way around so to speak if you compare it to the chart where you use a set-height measuring tool gauge (as with the front sponsons). Here you actually measure the height at a given length away from a base line. Thats perfect for smaller AoA angles as in the strut and rear sponsons...

Place your rigger on the set-up board and align the small chart with the strut rear edge at the base line. As this is a .21 rigger I will be measuring at the 40 mm mark.

Use a set of feeler gauge blades and slide them under the strut from the front until they stop at the 40 mm mark. In this case it was 1.00+0.15 mm that was needed.

If you take your printed out AoA chart you can see that 1.15 mm would be just between the 1.10 and 1.20 mm heights = 1.64 degrees of negative AoA on this strut...

That wasnt that hard was it? :)

You can of course use the same chart to measure the AoA of the rear sponsons also.

In July I published an article about sponson tape and how to make a rear sponson mounting jig. Thats the jig you see in the picture here above. The AoA PDF chart is used in this case also to calculate how thick the spacer blocks should be to give an preferred AoA of the jig. Click HERE for that article and more info.

Our flight to the F1 GP of Abu Dhabi December 3-4 is now booked - this will be an a w e s o m e trip. We have also got pit-passes - sweet! :)

I havent been at a F1 Powerboat race since the 80's I think when one of the GP's where in Stockholm @ Riddarfjärden. Back then the boats where made out of wood and the engines where V8's... :)

Chris Wood Blackbird II .21

Chris Wood have been developing his Blackbird .21 design rigger all summer long and I think he's just about ready to start preparing for the production this upcoming winter. The picture here above is taken of his Blackbird second generation .21 rigger at the 2010 Indy Masters race in Hobart (USA) and the picture itself is borrowed from ME Time Productions Inc. website (sorry, didn't ask if I could borrow it).

At this point there isn't a lot of info on the new boat but stay tuned for more info later this winter. It sure looks really good and it will be for sale!

According to Chris, he used a Novarossi engine with the stock carb modified by his father, a 46.5 mm dia 1450 prop with 3.6 cup and the Cooper/Irwin S-pipe @ 7-7/8" length (200 mm).

Ivan is producing by himself his own outboard tunnel and rig and has been looking for an engine capable to win races and so after some research and tests TecnoPower has found a good compromise for him and during the last run of the Italian Championships Ivan and his teammate Ezio Boretto (the pilot) managed to win this race with quite a lot of advance thanks to this new collaboration.

This new and fresh experience has made TecnoPower decide to try and develop some more in this direction and in the near future we will try and release some Marine versions, so wait and see."

TecnoPower is Rody Roem and Sergio Rossis new engine brand and they are made in Italy in their own factory (Tecnomeccannica). Rody is the man behind the RB Concept engines (but that company is sold a few years ago so he has no relation to RB any longer), Sergio is the brother of Mario Rossi and son of Cesare Rossi (NovaRossi) and he's a high class engineer that was the last "Rossi" engineer to leave his fathers company (Mario left NR many years ago).

Swedish Lady Nats in Rugby!

I was in Enköping today watching the Swedish 2010 final in lady rugby between local team Enköping vs. Göteborg. The first 15 minutes had Göteborg with a slight advantage scoring the first 3 points but Enköping showed why they have been the best women team in 2010. They played better and better and won the Swedish Nats title with 23-3!

Here's a video of my new Aquacraft Top Speed 3 boat. The video is shot with Mats Angseryd behind the wheel after the race. The boat was very good out of the box and for a stock tunnel the speed was impressive for our type of short-course racing.

Swedish OTA nats #5 Oxelösund Sept. 4

We also raced the fifth nats of the 2010 season in Oxelösund this past weekend in beautiful weather with smooth waters all day long. Nicers.

Personally I had just before this race built myself the new Aquacraft Top Speed 3 boat (its my orange #5 TS3 boat in the pictures) and tested it on location for the first time and it was (if I may say so myself) quite amazing right out of the box! For our type of racing on the short 3-leg course (with tight 90 + deg turns) it seems to be way better then the VS1 boat and almost, if not equal, to the all mighty HTB290. But that is on smooth water - we havent tested the TS3 in rough waters yet. This will be interesting for sure!

I ended up TQ with it as I won all my first four heats and for the last heat I added some lead weight to the front and tried to drive it differently and push it as hard as I could. Me and Mattias had an really, really cool duel all heat long until I rolled it to the right base buoy when trying for the inside lane... :)

In the final I was a little cautious in the start and was second or third on the first lap with Mattias leading. There was a couple of dead boats around the course so it meant I couldnt really push myself to the front and it was not like Mattias was slow in the lead either. LOL. I ended up over driving it at the tightest top buoy and it DNF:ed.

Swedish Hydro Nats #4 Oxelösund September 4-5

This past weekend we had our forth nationals in 2010 in Sweden in the FSR-H classes in Oxelösund. Personally I had kind of a so-so day in hydro as I had a couple of strange engine cuts and a DNF due to over-driving it... So I ended up in fifth place. This would be my last race of 2010 as I can not race the last nats due to other commitments.

We're just back home in Sweden after a long drive home from Oroshaza... The 2010 NAVIGA world champs was really good with a very friendly atmosphere and a very good race site!

The next host nation for the 2012 NAVIGA World Champs is not set yet. But what we do know is that there will be three new 27cc gas classes for all categories at the next world champs = FSR-H27 (hydro). FSR-O27 (Off-Shore) and FSR-V27 (V/Endurance).

The weather forcast was rain all day but it came at nigtht instead. FSR-V 3.5 & 7.5 cc seniors and FSR-V 3.5 Juniors qualifying heat #1 (of 2) was run on wednesday. I won my qualifying heat with my Falcon II 3.5 cc but the speed was not really there. So Im about 1.5 laps too slow at the moment. Need to fix that for friday's qualifying.

Oroshaza day 9 - tuesday

The hydro and off-shore oval racing is now all done here in Oroshaza and the 5 point M course is in the drink. The registration for FSR_V started today (for those that did not do it when the O/H registration was before the race) and it was open practice (in 15 minutes heats) on the race lake. The weather hit a peak also and it was close to 35 deg C and the density altitude was a whopping 900+ meters.

I will race in the V3.5 class with my Falcon and I had two practice heats in the belt and my Falcon II felt very good. It seems the gearbox 3.5's have it easier in the lack of oxygen air vs the direct drive 3.5 hydros. It felt like it was at home at good air at sea level for me. :)

Each round of V qualifications will be run over two days so my first heat (of 2) is tomorrow at 10.00. The next (and final q heat) is on friday. Finals on sunday if I make it...

The weather forcast for tomorrow says rain though (and 30deg C) so we'll see how that goes.

Overall the race have been absolutely awesome so far with the Hungarian people being very friendly and the organizing is on the very far end of the scale vs. the experience we all had from Leno the last time. It's a very good place to hold an event such as this!
